A Glimpse at MetaMetrics’ Consulting Services

MetaMetrics works with state education departments, testing and instructional companies and other educational resource providers to deliver consulting services for raising student achievement across the curriculum. In this edition, we highlight the following services:

Measurement Technologies: MetaMetrics develops measurement utilities that leverage the Lexile and Quantile Frameworks and integrate with technology-based partner products. Examples include assessment scoring utilities that refine student measurement over time, forecasting utilities that indicate likely outcomes on future assessments through research-based growth modeling, and text analysis tools that enable differentiated vocabulary instruction using the Lexile scale.

Research and Evaluation: MetaMetrics designs and conducts studies that support research institutions and policymakers in understanding the reading, writing and mathematics demands of P–16 education. For instance, the company partnered with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) on a study that characterized the typical reading demands encountered by students during their first year of common post-secondary options, such as community college. Expressing results in Lexile measures enabled THECB to consider more directly the relationship with student abilities observed on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills, which is linked with The Lexile Framework for Reading, as well as the demands of various career options through MetaMetrics growing body of reading research.
